The Studio

Millard & Flo is a lighting and interior design studio based in Rock, North Cornwall.

Founded in 2011 by lighting designer, Chris Millard and interior designer, Flo Millard. The couple relocated from London where they worked for prominent architectural lighting design (Chris) and industrial and architectural design (Flo) practices and now work out of their design studio in Rock.

Projects range from lighting and interior schemes for new-build residences, renovations and select commercial projects predominantly across Cornwall's beautiful north coast, including Rock, Polzeath, Daymer, across to Padstow and further into Cornwall. Their portfolio also extends to luxury apartments in London’s St Paul's and townhouses in West London.

Despite the demands of an exacting clientele, Chris and Flo maintain a refreshingly collaborative, personal and relaxed approach to design. Their design service provides a wealth of knowledge, skill and a bulging contact book from their connections in London and internationally, whilst also offering their out-of-county clients the benefit of a designer who is local to site for key areas such as Rock, Polzeath, Trebetherick and Padstow.

Chris and Flo have a young family and enjoy taking every opportunity to make the most of the lifestyle that beautiful Cornwall has to offer them, whilst also enjoying regular trips to London and abroad for design events and inspiration.

The Process

Stage One: The Brief

An initial conversation with a prospective client to discuss the size, scope and timings of the project.

Stage Two: The Proposal

A tailored fee proposal for the project will be presented, outlining costs and proposed works.

Stage Three: Design & Specification

Working collaboratively with client/ architect/ contractor, the designer will create bespoke lighting plans, a detailed specification of fittings &/or furniture and finishes and on-going technical information and support on site. The designer will also meet regularly with client/ architect/ contractor on site as part of the design service.

Millard & Flo also offers a remote design service for projects further afield.

Stage Four: Procurement & Delivery

Where required, the designer will quote, order, organise logistics and liaise with suppliers and contractors on site to oversee final delivery of light fittings, finishes &/or furniture for the project. The designer will work closely with the client on the final commission of any control systems, lighting &/or interior finishing touches.
